Gridster not adding widgets where I want

I have the following code which works when I add widget to (1,1) correctly but when I use the (row, col) as (2,2) it adds the widget to (1,2). What am I doing wrong?

gridster = $(".gridster ul").gridster({widget_selector: "li", widget_margins: [5, 5], widget_base_dimensions: [120, 40], min_cols: 0, min_rows: 0, max_size_x: false, avoid_overlapped_widgets: true}).data('gridster');

gridster.add_widget('<li><div>'+docItem.description+'</div><div>'+docItem.vals+'</div></li>', 1, 1, docItem.col, docItem.row);

The resultant HTML is as follows...

<div class="gridster ready">
    <ul id="gridData" style="width: 260px; position: relative; height: 50px;">
        <li data-col="1" data-row="1" data-sizex="1" data-sizey="1" class="gs-w" style="display: list-item;"><div>Total</div><div>1</div></li>
        <li data-col="2" data-row="1" data-sizex="1" data-sizey="1" class="gs-w" style="display: list-item;"><div>John</div><div>2</div></li>
    </ul>
</div>

I wanted to check that gridster can add a widget where ever I want rather than in a linear incremental pattern.

EDIT: Functioning, complete example below as requested.

Solution

  • This is a much-requested feature for Gridster, but good news, there's a fix for it available in a fork.

    The old ducksboard repo of Gridster has been dormant for over a year, but other maintainers have stepped in to merge recent contributions. I highly recommend the dsmorse fork of Gridster, and have used it in my own projects (and contributed a tiny fix to it, unrelated to this question).

    Here's the main demo & download page for the dsmorse fork.

    Among other feature improvements, this fork has an option shift_widgets_up: false that prevents widgets from snapping to the upper-most available position in the grid. Playing with the demo of this a bit, it looks like it might not be completely bug-free, but it's the closest thing I know to what you're asking.
