It should select things from believe to the first char of since. (see the code).
When I resize the window, the fake selection range becomes displaced.
However, if the fake selection is not in the viewport, the fake selection is updated correctly.

These are client rects, i.e. they give coordinates relative to the viewport.
With this positioning, you will have to determine the scroll offset/s and add that to the coordinates.
E.g. if only the page scrolls vertically:

(Alternatively you could switch to position: fixed, but then you need to update the coordinates on scroll as well.)
If you want to highlight text, there is an API for that (though as of writing this not supported in Firefox).
