Unable to see multiple .test domains using Laravel Sail (Docker)

I have two web applications built with Laravel and deployed locally using Laravel Sail. I utilize Vite and defined custome domains in my /etc/hosts file so I can access the first application at http://vantagemetalmap.test, as well as localhost:80 and the Vite page at localhost:5174

However, I cannot access the second application at http://thevillagex.test but I can access it at http://localhost:8081 and the secondary domain on 8082. I can also see the Vite server page on http://localhost:5174 and 5175. So this appears to definitively related to Apache's inability to resolve the domains to those ports on 127.0.0.1 - I am just unclear how to overcome that.

  • I'm on MacOS Sonoma
  • Using Laravel + Sail (Docker)

My Hosts File:

##
# Host Database

# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1   localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1             localhost

# Docker Applications
127.0.0.1 vantagemetalmap.test
127.0.0.1 thevillage.x

My vite.config.js

Note: I have also tried this without the HMR section.

import { defineConfig } from 'vite';
import laravel from 'laravel-vite-plugin';

export default defineConfig({
  server: {
    host: '0.0.0.0',
    port: 5175,
    hmr: {
      host: 'thevillagex.test',
      port: 5175,
    },
  },
  plugins: [
    laravel({
      input: ['resources/css/app.css', 'resources/js/app.js'],
      refresh: true,
    }),
  ],
});

Solution

  • I do want to make sure you're aware that in your hosts file, you're calling thevillage.x instead of thevillage.test. That's not the problem here, but I wanted you to be aware.

    But when you're visiting a URL, browsers default to port 80. Since vantagemetalmap.test is using port 80, you'll need to use thevillagex.test:8081 to access it since I'd imagine you didn't setup a reverse proxy.

    If you would like to just use thevillagex.test, check out NGINX Reverse Proxy.
