Where to download eclipse IDE (there's 2 main links and they all both completely different installers)

There's 2 links, and I downloaded from eclipseide.org (the top link and the one the wikipedia article sites as being the repository) and it had a really convoluted installer where I had to pick a 3rd party source to download the app from, even though I already downloaded the installer?

None of the YouTube tutorials tell you to go there, so I'm assuming I probably have to download from eclipse.org (which is the 2nd result on google and the one all the people on YouTube site) instead. That one's installer is actually one within mortal comprehension.

When looking the about this page section, eclipse.org actually tells you stuff and links to the wikipedia article (which then links to eclipse.org as the repository vs eclipseide.org [the one with the funky installer]) Whereas going to about this page section for eclipseide.org gives you nothing.

I'm assuming eclipse.org is the way to go, I'm just mainly asking this so this appears on the search results of anyone facing a similar issue.

I tried posting on reddit and I didn't have enough karma, but I might try another subreddit.

Solution

  • "Eclipse" isn't actually a thing. It's more a set of things: There are many, many different available installations.

Go with https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/installer - this gets you the installer that guides you through what you want. You end up with the eclipse these tutorials want you to have.
