Limit for creating VLAN interface with IP address

I have a network with L3 switch and router.

For router resources economy I tried creating interface vlans with IP addresses for LANs termination there and faced with a problem - DLink 1210 allows only creating up to 4 such interfaces. Different manufacturer L3 switch also allowed me creating only 7 interfaces. This is extremely small limit for my organization and my question is - why is it so? Maybe I am wrong in my thoughts about network architecture?

Solution

  • The limitations on the number of VLAN interfaces you're encountering with your router and L3 switch are likely due to factors such as hardware constraints, design choices by manufacturers, and cost-performance trade-offs. Consider exploring alternative solutions like VLAN trunking or reviewing your network architecture to ensure it aligns with your organization's needs. Upgrading to hardware with greater scalability may also be necessary if the current limitations are too restrictive.
