SecurityException on a running foreground service when permission revoked

Question

I have a long-running worker that gets the user's location in the background. Before starting the worker, I check all the needed location permissions.

I also added these lines of code to the Manifest. As per this documentation for Workers w/ foreground service/notification.

Here is the worker w/ setForeground() method.

I know that I have to check permission before starting the worker/service. And thats okay. But my question is how do I stop the worker/service if the user revokes the permission via settings?

Question: If I start the worker and then revoke the permission my app crashes. And then when I try to open the app, it crashes with the same SecurityException immediately. Does the system try to restore the service, but fail? How do I stop it from doing it? Where/when/how do I stop the service from restoring?

I am cancelling the worker on the app start, just before the exception happens. Maybe I need to cancel it some other way?

I found the answer! You need to stop the service, on the app start, if there is no permission.

val stopIntent = Intent(context, SystemForegroundService::class.java)
context.stopService(stopIntent)
