Interactive map plotly from shapefile

Question

I would like to create an interactive map, using the plotly package in R. However, I face the issue now that my geodata is contained in a shx shapefile, which the plot_ly() function seems to have issues with, as it does not contain long and lat but the known geometry lists. How do I solve this issue?
