I didn't use @Transactional annotation.
Is it possible to encode password inside save method ?
I assume that you have a password validation field and a validator for that.
You should mark your password validation field with @Transient so it doesn't get saved and mapped to the database.
If this is not enough you might have to deactivate validation on save() and run the validations in the controller with @Valid and BindingResult (which I would always prefer anyways) by adding this to your properties:

The validation in the controller looks something like:

As user @JBNizet noted, you might not want to deactivate your validations on the hibernate save.
To avoid this you would create an extra UserForm class that you run your validations on in the controller and then, if they pass, copy the data to an actual User entity object. The validation for the password validation field would be only placed in the UserForm class. This obviously means that you have to write a bit more boiler plate code though.

I personally prefer to just use the entity classes for validations because it's simpler and I want to do validation via annotations in the controller layer anyways instead of running them on database saves. If you perform more complex logic after receiving the entity in your controller you might prefer to also have checks on the database save though.
