I am trying to create a loop that returns more than one value (can handle any amount of length) on an as-needed basis.

You can do it using the User defined function and sapply
grading <- function(x)
{
grades <- cut(x,
breaks=c(0,seq(60,100,by=10)),
labels=c("F","D","C","B","A"))
return(grades)
}
## your list of scores #####
score<- c(50,40,70,80,90)
##sapply to find the grades #######
sapply(score,grading)
