Consider tables
For a given invention, &inventionID, I would like to do a 'covering' left join to all of the components instead of just the utilized components.
SQL would be something like

Question: How should the Linq query be modified to perform the desired covering query ?

By adding DefaultIfEmpty()
, j1
can be null for some components. If j1
is null, I assume you want count to be 0:

In LINQ-to-objects you could also use ComponentCount = j1?.Count ?? 0
. but I assume you're going to use this in LINQ to a SQL backend.
