Apache does NOT allow access from other devices on the network

Before I start, I'd like to let you all know that I have read dozens of articles regarding this subject, unfortunately I was not able to find the right answer, half of the posts are not even answered.

To the point, I am trying to access some sites that are hosted on my local machine, I am using WAMP server and only trying to access the server from devices that are on the same network. After reading some of the articles, I realized that none of the devices are getting past the firewall on my local machine, so I created a new rule and opened port 80 for a specific site (HTTP). Now all devices that are trying to access the server are getting past the firewall, that is NOT the problem any more. The problem now is that APACHE itself will not allow access, I just get stuck on a page with the following message

You don't have permission to access /whatever on this server.
Apache/2.4.17(Win64) PHP/5.6.16 Server at 192.168.0.111 Port 80

Here's my httpd.conf file, if somebody could take a peek I'd really appreciate it

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/access_log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache2" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/usr/local/apache2/logs/access_log", whereas "/logs/access_log"
# will be interpreted as '/logs/access_log'.
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
# will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion. ServerSignature On ServerTokens Full

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to specify a local disk on the
# Mutex directive, if file-based mutexes are used. If you wish to share the
# same ServerRoot for multiple httpd daemons, you will need to change at
# least PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "C:/wamp64/bin/apache/apache2.4.17"

Define APACHE24 Apache2.4

#
# Mutex: Allows you to set the mutex mechanism and mutex file directory
# for individual mutexes, or change the global defaults
#
# Uncomment and change the directory if mutexes are file-based and the default
# mutex file directory is not on a local disk or is not appropriate for some
# other reason.
#
# Mutex default:logs

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 192.168.0.111:80

Here's the httpd-vhosts.conf file as you requested, also I added two lines to the hosts file

</VirtualHost>

I tried adding Require ip 192.168.0 to the virtual host, but it didn't work... The page is just endlessly loading

EDIT:
Just realized, once I add virtual host that is to say once I uncomment this line in the httpd.conf file

# Virtual hosts
Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf

I am no longer able to access the server, not even the homepage. And I am only talking about other devices on the same network, once I comment out the line, then I am only able to access the homepage... Don't understand what's going on...

Solution

  • Ok

    Comment this line

    #Listen 192.168.0.111:80
    Listen *:80

    The * in Listen *:80 says listen to any ip address so first line is unnecessary

    This change you did is actually dangerous

    <Directory />
       AllowOverride none
       Require all granted
    </Directory>

    It should be as replaced by

    <Directory />
        AllowOverride none
        Require all denied
    </Directory>

    The <Directory /> section controls access to the root folder of the drive Apache is installed on i.e /. If you get hacked, changing it to Require all granted would allow the hacker full access to your whole drive. Standard practice with Apache is deny access to everything and then give it access to ONLY what it needs!!! This section is the one that locks everything down initially, we give access later.

    This change is probably confusing Apache, as you have used Require all granted twice

    #
    # Controls who can get stuff from this server.
    #
     Require all granted
    #   onlineoffline tag - don't remove
     Require all granted
    </Directory>

    Change to

        #
        # Controls who can get stuff from this server.
        #

    #   onlineoffline tag - don't remove
        Require local
    </Directory>

    Unless you want to access the server from any ip in the universe dont use Require all granted as Require local should allow access from only the PC running WAMPServer. Until you think you are ready to let the world into your server this is safer.

    If you want to allow access from other PC's on your local network you could do this instead.

    #   onlineoffline tag - don't remove
        Require local
        Require ip 192.168.0

    This section looks like its been damaged

    <IfModule logio_module>
       # You need to enable mod_logio.c to use %I and %O
       LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\" %I %O"

    combinedio
     </IfModule>

    It should be

       <IfModule logio_module>
          # You need to enable mod_logio.c to use %I and %O
          LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\" %I %O" combinedio
        </IfModule>

    Also looks like you have messed this section up, it should be

    #
    # EnableMMAP and EnableSendfile: On systems that support it,
    # memory-mapping or the sendfile syscall may be used to deliver
    # files. This usually improves server performance, but must
    # be turned off when serving from networked-mounted
    # filesystems or if support for these functions is otherwise
    # broken on your system.
    # Defaults: EnableMMAP On, EnableSendfile Off
    #
    #EnableMMAP off
    EnableSendfile off

    This

    Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf

    looks like you are trying to include at least one Virtual Host, great idea, but you had better show us conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf as well

    Suggestion:

    If you are using Windows standard editor i.e. notepad.exe dont! Instead download a decent text editor, my suggestion would be notepad++ its free and a very good editor, and great for PHP coding.

    Your HOSTS File should have a reference for each site on both IPV4 and IPV6

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    127.0.0.1   parenje.local

    ::1 localhost
    ::1 parenje.local

    Now to access your parenje.local local site from another PC on you network you have to use the URL parenje.local but that other PC of course does not know anything about parenje.local unless you have a local DNS Server?

    So the simple way to do this is to add this HOSTS file to all your other PC's

    Assuming your WAMPServer PC is running on 192.168.0.10

    192.168.0.10 parenje.local

    This Virtual host could be changed to

    <VirtualHost *:80>
        ServerName parenje.local
        DocumentRoot c:/wamp64/www/parenje-yu.com
        <Directory "c:/wamp64/www/parenje-yu.com/">
           Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
           AllowOverride All
           Require local
           Require ip 192.168.0
       </Directory>
    </VirtualHost>

    Assuming your running on a 192.168.0 subnet
